Edition is the unit of comparison
Do not stop at a shared title. Record the exact platform, physical or digital format, catalog number, release territory, and whether the package is a complete game, an upgrade entitlement, or a bundle. A cartridge that starts successfully can still differ in languages, downloadable content, or account requirements.
- Match JAN/EAN and catalog number
- Confirm the exact platform edition
- Separate full package from upgrade pass
- Treat DLC and account region as separate checks
Language needs first-party evidence
Use the platform holder or publisher’s edition-specific language field where possible. Do not infer support from an English title, screenshots, region-free compatibility, or another territory’s edition. If the official sources are silent or inconsistent, keep the language unknown rather than promising support.
Price is only one branch
Compare the verified merchant-native price with shipping, tax, duty, power or accessory needs, and practical support. Recheck availability at the decision point. The right conclusion may be a local edition, an upgrade pass, waiting for clearer language evidence, or importing the Japanese package—the framework does not force a purchase.
